After six gripping episodes and one hell-of-a cliffhanger in the final episode, Cleverman has come to a close. Thankfully though, the series by Ryan Griffen has been renewed for another season in Australia and the US. Starring Indigenous actors Hunter Page-Lochard, Rob Collins and Deborah Mailman, the series reimagines several stories of the Aboriginal Dreaming in a modern, superhero context. The series reflects and remarks on racism, asylum seekers and border protection issues, using the scorn of the Hairypeople or “Hairies” to detail the plight of many minority and vulnerable groups across the world.
“The world that Ryan Griffen and the rest of the team behind Cleverman have created is a perfect blend of timeless mythology seen through the prism of a near future lens,” said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for SundanceTV (AMC Networks).
ABC TV and SundanceTV production on the genre-drama’s next six episodes will begin later this year in Sydney.
