Born in Broome, Western Australia, Kayps is a 20-year-old Indigenous Walmatjarri and Bunubahip-hop artist now based in Perth/Boorloo. After spending his early years in Fitzroy Crossing, a remote town in the Kimberley region, Kayps relocated to Perth/Boorloo to pursue greater educational opportunities.
A gifted writer and producer, Kayps is known for blending melodic infectious hooks with high speed intricate rap flows, his music reflects both contemporary energy and personal storytelling. Drawing on a wide range of influences, his music reflects both contemporary energy and deep-rooted introspection. As a proud Bunuba artist, Kayps explores identity and cultural reconnection through his work. He recently signed with Bad Apples Musicfor his upcoming album rollout

Kayps has earned a reputation for his work ethic, bravado and, of course, raw talent and credits much of his rise to his cultural and familial roots. In particular, the Walmatjarri and Bunuba artist and producer is greatly inspired by his childhood – “My grandfather’s side of the family is in a remote community called Wantkatjungka. Growing up in a remote community was one of the best things because every single person in that community is part of one big family. Having that connection and comfort with everybody in that area growing up was one of the best feelings, especially on land that our ancestors walked on for thousands and thousands of generations.’’
In 2026, Kayps is set to release his album titled BUNUBA BABY, a deeply personal project that delves into his evolving relationship with culture and identity. Through powerful storytelling, the album captures his experiences of growing up culturally distanced, grappling with feelings of confusion, anger, and frustration, and the impact this has had on his relationships with family and Country. It also explores how he has come to understand the importance of reconnecting with his roots while acknowledging the broader political issues affecting his community. BUNUBA BABY represents a turning point where the title transforms from a creative moniker into a lived reality, as Kayps embraces his heritage and the responsibilities that come with it.

Kayps’ trajectory has been marked by a series of notable achievements. In 2021, he was awarded the triple j Indigenous Initiative and was named a Top 5 Finalist in triple j Unearthed High for both 2021 and 2022. In 2023, he was selected as the Western Australian representative for the Mushroom Creative x Coles First Nations Pathway Program, further cementing his status as a rising talent in the national music landscape. Kayps showcased internationally at SXSW Sydney in 2024 and SXSW Austin, Texas in 2025, bringing his unique voice to global stages. His momentum continues into 2025 with support slots for Denzel Curry and Kneecap, highlighting a breakout year ahead.
