Young artist on the rise, Sedriece, has just released his powerful debut single Shockwave, out now via Singing Our Futures, a legacy program of the late great Uncle Archie Roach AC supporting the next wave of First Nations artists.
His debut single shockwave is the start of a great career for a young Nyoongar artist Sedriece from Boorloo / Perth, Western Australia. Drawing sonic inspiration from artists like The Weeknd, Lucky Daye, and Khalid, it brings layered harmonies, moody vocals, and a raw honesty to his sound. Shockwave was brought to life with producer Stephen Mowat and mentor WILSN, featuring Jake Amy on keys and mastering by Paul Blakey.
The day after his release on May 17, Sedriece won over big fans while performing Shockwave for the first time at Marvel Stadium in front of 40,000 people for the Sir Doug Nicholls Round Western Bulldogs VS Essendon AFL game: “Performing at Marvel Stadium during half-time was unreal: the adrenaline, the atmosphere, the crowd, it was all next level. Being able to share my own music on that kind of stage is something I’ll never forget.”

Written during a full-on time in his life, Shockwave is a smooth, soulful and reflective track that captures the feeling of being overwhelmed. Sedriece was juggling Year 12, late-night rehearsals, and big decisions about uni and work when the song came together.
“It became a way for me to process the pressure and remind myself and others to make space for self-care. I realised I was trying to please everyone and constantly taking on too much. Writing this song helped me step back and remember that it’s okay to focus on my own wellbeing.”
Growing up in a creative family, Sedriece started performing at school assemblies and musicals, inspired by his mum who performed in The Merindas. He is now studying a Bachelor of Acting at WAAPA, continuing to explore both music and performance.
‘Shockwave’ is the first release in an exciting partnership with Bad Apples Music Distribution, with many more releases to come. The Singing Our Futures program was established by the Archie Roach Foundation in collaboration with Culture is Life. It has evolved from the rich legacy left behind by Uncle Archie Roach AC, a legacy centred around the art of storytelling and truth-telling through music, as well as his dedication to nurturing and creating significant opportunities for emerging First Nations artists. This program delivers invaluable support to its mentees as they follow their pathway into songwriting and recording, also facilitating opportunities for them to showcase their talents through partnerships with well-known events. Over the past four years it has evolved into an autonomous mentoring initiative, persistently growing by recognising the fundamental needs for First Nations artists.
The program has been under the leadership of award winning First Nations artist and music producer Candice Lorrae. Singing Our Futures has seen emerging artists receive mentorship from some of the country’s most prominent artists, including Emily Wurramurra, Dan Sultan, Emma Donovan, Dobby, and Bumpy.
