Gomeroi man and one of Australia’s most important masterful rap storytellers, Kobie Dee, closes out a landmark year with the release of ‘Sydney 2 Croydon’ featuring renowned UK artist Jords.
It highlights two Black artists from opposite sides of the world, bridging Sydney and South London through sharp storytelling and cultural pride. Born from a genuine friendship since YouTube Black Voices, the track blends powerful lyricism and global hip hop energy, celebrating unity, identity, and the shared realities of their neighbourhoods.
Kobie Dee shares, “I met Jords back in 2022 through the YouTube Black Voices Workshop. We connected, swapped contacts, and just fed off each other’s energy… a few months later, I was on my first overseas trip to the UK – and that’s where we linked up in person. Since then, we’ve been friends and have both built something musically and personally. There is a mutual respect and understanding there and I think that shows in the music we make together. Fast forward to 2024, I’m back in London for some shows, we get in the studio again and that’s where Sydney 2 Croydon was born”
2025 has been another standout year for the Gomeroi artist. His track ‘About A Girl’ was certified Gold, following a performance, presentation and nomination at this year’s ARIA Awards. Kobie’s collaboration with Hellcat Speedracer ‘Maroubra Villain’ continues its national surge, currently #9 on triple j’s Most Played, peaking at #16 on the National Australian Charts, and receiving full rotation across CADA, Hit Dance, Nova Nation, and triple j. He was also a final nominee for the inaugural Sound NSW Music Prize Award and delivered a powerful performance at the MCG for Dreamtime Round, marking a major cultural milestone.
Supporting the new release is a music video clip featuring Kobie Dee and Jords. “The visuals were shot in both Sydney and South Croydon. Our intention was to blur the lines showing the similarities between our areas, but also the beauty in what makes them different. This one’s special… Two worlds coming together in one track”
‘Sydney 2 Croydon’ serves as a powerful year-ending statement, offering fans a reflective and soulful close to one of the biggest chapters of his career.
Looking ahead, Kobie Dee will return in 2026, building into the next evolution of his artistry, leading towards his debut album, set for release in 2026.
